The artist reveals...
...how lace is significant to their work
“ The principal concept for my work concerns memory traces.
Lace has for a long time inspired me because it has an ethereal nature not unlike that of memory itself. For the Gas Hall at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, the shadows, cast by one fabric onto another or to the surrounding area, are reminders of the transience of memory and experience”.
Liz Nilsson was born in Sweden, studied at Goldsmiths College, London and lives and works in Ireland. Her commissioned work includes the Office of Public Works, Ireland (2008). Exhibitions include the 13th Tapestry Triennale Lodz, Poland (2010) and the 4th Biennale du Lin, Toronto (2011).
